WATER STRATFORD - Water Stratford grew up where a Roman road from the south forded the Great Ouse and then branched, with one road heading north to Towcester and another (it's claimed) heading east to Stony Stratford. The Domesday Book suggests that while the village was only of medium size compared with other places, it had a very high tax assessment!
